Course Overview

This medical device training course is designed for interventional radiologists (IRs) interested in enhancing their proficiency in liver access techniques to facilitate transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) creation. This hands-on animal lab offers a comprehensive look at the therapeutic modalities that are used to treat complications resulting from liver disease. Our instructors will share optimal criteria for patient selection and strategies for treatment. Device overviews and techniques utilizing Cook Medical devices for liver access will be described. Embolization techniques will also be covered in this course. Review of Cook’s embolization product portfolio will include use of the Retracta Detachable Coil.  

Course Objectives

  • Understand indications and uses of embolic devices 
  • Gain minimum experience in practicing interventions and performing TIPS and embolization cases 
  • Obtain an overview of various embolic agents and devices 
  • Engage in discussions on how to treat TIPS using RUPS and RTPS sets 
  • Understand or improve product selection and application for TIPS and embolic therapy
